Our six favorite places to eat in St. Augustine Beach are simply the ones that have personal value to us and a great vibe! We have been traveling back to St. Augustine almost every year for the past 12 years. Memories have been made and special moments shared.
What better way to make great memories and share special moments with family and friends than with a nice meal and amazing vibes. Not every restaurant or cafe is a place that we have visited for years, but there is special meaning with each one in our hearts!
1) Salt Life Food Shack
When you first pass by Salt Life Food Shack (especially at night…cover photo) it is an eye-catching building that shouts beach vibes! This place is perfect for a beach town like St. Augustine Beach.
The vibe is right up our alley, as the St. Augustine Beach pier sits right across the street, beach volleyball can be seen from the topside seating, nightly live music, and beautiful sunsets are seen from the upstairs seating. Videos of spearfishing, surfing, and diving are playing on the flat screen tv’s, adding scenic vibes to their “Salt Life” theme!
Once the tiki torches are lit and the music starts playing, you feel like you’re dining directly off the Bahama shores!
The menu does a great job of promoting what it’s like living the “Salt Life”. We love opening the menu and feeling as though we’re in the Caribbean about to order some fresh caught grouper, mahi-mahi, oysters, and many other fresh seafood from the ocean.
They do a very good job setting the beach life vibe throughout their entire restaurant. Not to mention – the food is amazing!
2) Sea Oats Cafe
This small cafe is where I’ve spent the most time over the years. My first meal was in 1996 with my grandmother and is by far my favorite place to enjoy a great breakfast! My wife and I have a few traditions while visiting St. Augustine Beach, we make sure our first breakfast to kick off our vacation takes place at the Sea Oats Cafe. Their small-town beach vibes, sound of the ukulele door chime, and great food makes us feel at home on the beach.
We had our first breakfast with my wife’s family, friends flew all the way from Alaska, California, and Georgia during our wedding week in 2009. Our good friends from Boston had breakfast with us at Sea Oats Cafe, this was special for us as we have known each other since our years in high school. We’ve enjoyed adding many great memories at this small cafe.
They have the best eggs, pancakes, French toast, and for a southern man living on the west coast…. a nice properly cooked batch of cheese grits!
3) South Beach Grill
South Beach Grill offers a nice relaxing meal on the sand and is located just south of St. Augustine Beach in nearby Crescent Beach. The best thing about South Beach Grill is they use locally caught fresh seafood. Their menu has a nice mixture of what one would expect at the beach; fish tacos, burgers, steaks cooked to order, salads, and my personal favorite golden- brown conch fritters!
South Beach Grill is the place to go for a nice relaxing meal sitting under their covered outside seating watching the beachgoers have a great time. My wife and I enjoy an evening stroll on the beach that is directly out front of the restaurant. It is a nice way to end the night, walking the beach, watching the waves, and enjoying a golden-lit sky as the sunsets.
4) The Kookaburra
Kookaburra coffee is an adorable cafe just off A1A in the heart of St. Augustine Beach. Who doesn’t need a cup of freshly brewed coffee in the mornings to get their day started in paradise?!
We fell in love with this small coffee cafe where you can order fabulous Aussie brekkie and lunch pies with the best coffee in town! They also sell their own brand of coffee which we are currently enjoying daily here in Oregon!
The Kookaburra has very nice seating out back to enjoy your morning under beautiful palms and southern oak trees. The setting is very relaxing as well as the perfect venue to enjoy great conversation with those you love most under the shade.
5) Sunset Grill
Sunset Grill has been in operation for the past 28 years. They are a staple of the St. Augustine Beach area, right off A1A, just south of the St. Augustine Beach pier. Hospitality at Sunset Grill is second to none, they aim to please and truly have a passion for people.
Sunset Grill serves some of the best Burgers I’ve ever tasted (I’m a burger man for sure). They offer inside seating for those who are looking to get out of the nice Florida heat and outdoor seating on the rooftop for those, such as us, that enjoy a warm sunset view.
If you’re in the St. Augustine Beach area, Sunset Grill is a must! We promise you won’t be disappointed!
6) Creekside Dinery
This is the only restaurant not on Anastasia island that we visited. It’s only a few miles across the inter-coastal waterway.
Creekside offers some of the best southern seafood recipes in St. Augustine. You can order just about anything and feel like you’re having a home cooked southern meal. Service is great, and the venue is set up to be a fun-filled evening with delicious food and good music.
They offer a romantic inside setting if you are looking for a night out for two or special occasion. The outside seating is on a spacious deck that seats close to 50+ people and overlooks a portion of the inter-coastal waterway.
Live music is a fun way to dance and enjoy some tunes as you and your family enjoy a night full of laughter, stories, and of course beautiful scenery!
